WAN optimisation

Inefficient protocols coupled with high latency WAN links can cripple application performance, especially as utilisation rates rise on the WAN. Telecommunications costs are still a significant piece of the IT budget so more bandwidth is not always the answer.

This is when clients turn to application acceleration and this technology should fundamentally do four things;

  • Reduce user wait time (latency)
  • Reduce the amount of bandwidth used by a user-application interaction
  • Prioritise user-application interactions according to business priorities
  • Improve application availability and scalability

The Maxima solution addresses these in the following ways;

Protocol optimisation
Maximise application throughput across your network infrastructure and overcome WAN latency for peak network performance by "spoofing" protocols so inefficient protocols don't traverse the WAN.

Centralised Monitoring and Reporting
Centralised management allows policies to be created and pushed to individual units with reporting features showing the optimisation one each link on the network.

Traffic Marking
Mark packets with prescribed DiffServ, IPTOS/Precedence, MPLS tags, VLANs and others. Tie applications to correct IP VPN class of service; compare performance between applications with different Type of Service (ToS) settings.

Symmetric Compression & Caching
Increases WAN capacity quickly over existing links with symmetric device-to-device compression, utilising advanced compression techniques including multiple algorithms, fragment caching, header compression and packet bundling.

Maxima partners with the leading vendors in applications acceleration including Bluecoat / Packeteer, Nortel and Cisco.
